App for automation or integration allow to pass around data from different sources to combine them, save it elsewhere or automatically trigger actions when certain conditions are met. Such apps are frequently used to automate cross-posting things between social media services (e.g. automatically post a Facebook-post on Twitter) or for "smart homes" (e.g. turn on the lights when coming home).
