Help:Editing Show and Tell pages

From Personal Science Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Show and Tell pages on this wiki were automatically imported from the Quantified Self Show & Tell talk database. Some information might be missing or outdated. Whether you are the speaker of the talk or somebody else, if you have updated or supplemental information about a show & tell talk, and you want to update its page, here are some instructions to help you editing.

How to update links[edit | edit source]

Please see the MediaWiki help page on editing external or internal links.

How to add a featured image[edit | edit source]

To insert images, you first have to upload them to the wiki, and then link to them via their title and "File:":

  • Go to Upload Files, choose the image file from your computer, and assign title and license. If you made the image yourself, you can pick any license. If you are not the author of the image, please choose "From external source, no free license available."
  • Then go back to the Show and Tell page you want to edit, and click either on "Edit" (for visual editor) or "Edit source" (for the source code editor) from the tabs on the top right of the page.
  • In the visual editor:
    • Click on the box on the right titled "Show and Tell Infobox".
    • A pop-up titled "Template" should appear. Click on "Edit" in this pop-up.
    • A new pop up titled "Show and Tell Infobox" should appear.
    • in the field "Featured Image", insert ""
  • 'In the source code editor:
    • After "Featured Image=" in the Show and Tell Infobox template, insert ""

For more information on formatting images, see.

How to add slides[edit | edit source]

To insert slides, you first have to upload them to the wiki, and then link them. The preferred format for slides are PDF files and our Wiki only allows the upload of files that are smaller than 15 MB in size. If your file with PDF file of the slides is too big you might have to shrink it. There are many tools for this available, but Adobe itself offers an easy online tool for this.

Once your file fits the upload requirements you can do the following:

  • Go to Upload Files, choose the pdf file from your computer, and assign title and license. If you made the slides yourself, you can pick any license. If you are not the author of the slides, please choose "From external source, no free license available."
    • in the field "Slides", insert " NAME-OF-YOUR-FILE.pdf"
  • In the source code editor:
    • After "Slides=" in the Show and Tell Infobox template, insert " NAME-OF-YOUR-FILE.pdf"

How to add information about the presenter[edit | edit source]

Our initial imports from the Show & Tell library only have very limited information about the presenter, mostly some links to social media or the presenters websites. In many cases these links might be very outdated and will not work anymore.

If you are the presenter (or know the presenter) and know working links to social media or the website of a presenter, please help us by updating them. Also: If you are the presenter and want to give a bit more context about yourself, it is perfectly fine to write a few sentences about yourself!

How to request deletion[edit | edit source]

See Requesting content removal.

Where can I ask a question?[edit | edit source]

For questions regarding a specific wiki page, you can ask them directly on the pages's Talk page. To get there, click on the "Discussion" tab (top left of the page).

If you are unsure how to proceed or have further questions, you can also join the Open Humans Slack and join the #wiki channel or write an email.
