Rob ter Horst (or The Quantified Scientist on YouTube) is a researcher with a background in bioinformatics who is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher in Vienna. Beyond this, he is interested in self-tracking/life-logging and engages in science communication and "scientific" reviews of wearable devices on his YouTube channel.
YouTube work
A lot of Rob's recent YouTube work focuses on reviewing a variety of wearable devices from a wide array of manufacturers. As part of his reviewing he aims to compare their performance and accuracy to gold-standard measurements that are similar or identical to academically used standards.
In earlier videos he also presented some self-research projects and general explainer videos:
- How blood oxygen saturation changes when flying
- What are the effects of dark chocolate?
- What are sleep stages and how are they predicted?
