I'm thinking about doing a project on stress tracking. I don't own a tracking device yet, so right now I am trying to determine which device I should buy.

Motivations and goals[edit | edit source]

I would like to understand better how my subjective mood relates to physical symptoms, and what influences my stress levels.

Variables to track potentially[edit | edit source]

  • Heart rate (HRV, resting heart rate)
  • Sleep quality
  • EDA
  • activity
  • additional/not necessarily with device: subjective rating of mood/stress level, journaling (activities of the day/calendar, thoughts)

Tracking devices[edit | edit source]

Thoughts on which tracking device to buy.

Criteria[edit | edit source]

  • If possible, no paid subscription.
  • less than 200 €
  • I don't need functionality like answering calls, integration of spotify etc.
  • A summary score for stress (e.g. on Fitbit sense and charge 5) would be handy, but is maybe not necessary, because I can calculate it myself from single metrics.

List of devices[edit | edit source]

  • Fitbit Sense
    • + has stress management score and EDA
    • - expensive, paid subscription necessary, I would prefer a smaller screen
  • Fitbit Charge 5
    • + has stress manamgement score and EDA, small screen
    • - paid subscription necessary
  • Fitbit Charge 4
    • + no paid subscription necessary (?), small screen
    • - no EDA, no stress management score
