Quantified Flu is a symptom-tracking web application that focuses on collecting self-reported symptom reports related to infections and visualizes the data alongside physiological data from wearable devices. Additionally, it offers a way to do retrospective investigations of past infections. It was co-created by the Open Humans community[1] and is available at https://quantifiedflu.org/.

On-going symptom reports

Users of Quantified Flu can setup scheduled check-ins at which they will get an email reminder to record their symptoms on each day.

In total 12 different symptoms of infections can be tracked through Quantified Flu, across three main sections: Respiratory, Gastrointestinal and Systemic symptoms. Each of these symptoms can be scored on a 5-point scale from "none" to "very much". Additionally, it offers a free-text option for further symptoms, fever guesses, temperature recordings and further notes.

Scaled symptoms

  • Respiratory
    • Cough
    • Cough with mucus (phlegm)
    • Reduced sense of smell (anosmia)
    • Runny or stuffy nose
    • Sore throat
    • Shortness of breath
  • Gastrointestinal
    • Diarrhea
    • Nausea or vomiting
  • Systemic

Wearable support

Quantified Flu allows visualizing physiological data alongside the self-reported symptoms in a unified heatmap. Depending on the wearable in question, resting heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature can be used. Quantified Flu currently supports Oura Ring, Fitbit, Apple Watch/Apple Health, Google Fit and Garmin devices.
